What are hidden stand-off sign fixings?

Components for hidden stand-off fixings (snapfix locators), that are to be used for sign installation.

The purpose of these little beauties is to securely and mechanically fix your sign to a wall or other mounting surface, whilst being hidden from view behind the sign itself.  They enable your sign to literally stand out whilst leaving the actual fixing method to the viewers imagination and appearing as though the sign is floating.

The snapfix hidden stand-off fixing system comprises of two plastic parts, that will snap together.

Overview of how the hidden stand-off sign fixings work

The male studs are pre-bonded to the back of your sign in our studio during manufacturing stage. A hole should be drilled into your masonry wall into which the expansion plug is inserted.  Each of the provided screws should be fed through the hole in the centre of a female plug and screwed into the expansion plug. Each stud will then just simply press into the corresponding socket and hold your sign in place. This system relies on having the installed sockets and studs in alignment and the instructions in this article will explain how to do this.

The provided screws and plugs are for masonry installations.
Plugs will not be needed for installation on wood surfaces and will not
be suitable for stud walls.

It is important that holes are drilled and the female sockets are positioned in EXACT alignment with the male studs on the sign.

• Take the cardboard sleeve that your sign arrived in and fully open it. Trim if necessary. Using non-marking masking tape, tape it flat against your wall where you are going to install your sign. Make sure it is flat & held securely and unable to move or slide.

• Using a spirit level; mark a straight and level horizontal line on the cardboard to indicate the bottom edge of your sign.

• Lightly hold your sign against the cardboard; aligning the bottom edge to the level line that you have just marked. If you are happy that your sign appears straight and level; press the sign a little firmer into the cardboard surface. The pimple on each male stud will pierce the cardboard surface, leaving you with the exact template for hole drilling positions.*

• Using a 5.5mm drill bit; drill through the cardboard and into the wall at the marked positions, to a depth that is suitable for a 34mm wall plug. Ensure template does not move.

• Remove and discard cardboard packaging template.

• Insert a wall plug in to each of the drilled holes.

• Thread supplied screws through the holes in the female sockets.

• Screw female sockets into the installed wall plugs.

• With all female sockets installed, align and press each of the male studs into the corresponding socket. You should hear a “SNAP” when they are pushed together fully.
